Welcome to the Cleaning Power of PEAT! - 16th Dec 2021

Enviropeat™ is an exceptionally pure, high quality sphagnum peat moss sourced from Southland, New Zealand.

Enviropeat™ is used for absorbing and cleaning up hydrocarbon based spills and waste including oil spills, diesel, hydraulic fluid, alcohols, aromatics and carbonyl compounds. It also has the ability to filter industrial wastes, untreated effluents, algae and mining remnant waste.

The sphagnum peat moss is a naturally occurring organic fibre which is harvested and dried at our production facilities. The unique drying process allows the fibres to absorb hydrocarbons on contact. The fibre encapsulates the contaminant and prevents it from being leached back into the environment.

How it works?

The key action is in the unique drying process that it undergoes.

The drying process releases the natural waxes found within the peat and converts it to a hydrophobic or water-resistant state. The cellular structure of the peat is then able to draw in any hydrocarbon-based spill such as oil, diesel, hydraulic fluid, alcohol and paint on contact while repelling water.

Enviropeat™ can then be spread on the spill and will naturally start to absorb the contaminant. Once the hydrocarbon is encapsulated, it will not leach.

Enviropeat™ is also an effective vapour suppressant and absorbent of hydrocarbons on land and water, in wet and dry conditions making it ideal to treat free flowing hydrocarbons even in extreme flooding.

How to dispose of spent Enviropeat™

Enviropeat™ can be disposed of in several ways, including:

Landfill – due to the fact that Enviropeat™ does not leach, spent Enviropeat™ can be disposed of in landfills, where local regulations permit. We advise that you contact your local authorities for advice and instruction.

Bio-remediation – Enviropeat™ can be blended with soil on site. This process locks up the hydrocarbon. The soil microbes in conjunction with Enviropeat™ break down the hydrocarbons to their elemental state.

Incineration – since Enviropeat™ is able to be incinerated if local guidelines and regulations allow.
